So when we got married a little over a year ago, I spent sooooo much time coming up with the perfect list of music (I’m a HUGE music buff!) to use in both our ceremony and reception. We’re talking months here. So I want to spare all those brides to be out there a little time and give you my ultimate list of wedding songs. I listened to over 1700 songs in making this list (yes, I know, I’m a little cray cray).

I would like to point out that this list is, of course, same sex wedding appropriate, but it can be used for any wedding out there: straight, gay, old, young, rustic, modern, etc.

I’m going to break it up into what parts of the wedding the song can be used for over the next several posts. There are just way too many songs to be listed here in one spot. You would seriously get overwhelmed. I know I surely do looking at it all! Those with a * will be in multiple lists.
So here goes to the very first part! And how better to start than the very first thing in your wedding that needs music! Background music for when your guests are arriving and being seated. You generally need about 45 minutes – 1 hour worth of songs to fill up this space (Guests tend to show up 30 minutes early but you know you’re Great Aunt Tessie is going to show up even earlier than that) . This list has wayyyyy more than 1 hour so feel free to pick and choose!

  1. wow that is a lot of work! I think it would be most helpful if they were organized by genre as some people might not want country music/kids music/religious music ect

    1. I was going back and forth on whether or not to do that. I may try doing it on my next list and see which one I like better. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

  7. This is such a great playlist for an anniversary or Valentine’s day party too! I’m Pinning to save and make my own YouTube play list!

  8. I didn’t realize there were so many songs! It’s an ultimate list without a doubt. I think it’s good to try different songs, couples often go for whatever love song is trending during the year.

    1. That was definitely something I wanted to avoid in our wedding. All those current top songs. We did have a few but there are soooo many great classics out there that people forget about!

  9. Just sayin’ – you must have driven yourself cray cray doing this. What an undertaking. There are 193 songs on the list, but I can only imagine how many you listened to before you decided. And they are just the ones for while guests are arriving and being seated… KUDOS my dear.

    1. According to my massive spreadhsheet, it was about 1700 in making every list for every part of the wedding. I’m totally not kidding that it literally took months to finish! Thank you!!

  10. Great list! We had a lot of those at our wedding too. We chose to have music all the way from when the guests were arriving, to through the ceremony, during the signing and right through! The list was massive, but we sat down and picked it together (and did a trial run of it too!). SO much fun! enjoy πŸ™‚

    1. Awesome!! Good luck with planning and Congrats!! Over the next several weeks I will be posting lists for other parts of a wedding/reception as well so stay tuned!

  11. This is awesome. A friend is getting married next summer – I think I can put together that will break all records! THANK YOU!

    1. Thank you! No Problem! I felt selfish just keeping this list in my computer collecting dust lol. It needed to be shared!

  12. I think it is hard to have an ultimate playlist as people have such different taste. We would have some songs that would be obscure to you but important to us and our guests. A nice suggestion though.

  13. This is a great list of songs. Hoping someday I will get married and choose one of those songs.

  14. That is a great list of songs, even has a few that we played at our wedding πŸ™‚

  15. Great list of songs! My First Dance Song was “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz. My Mum asked about having the organ play A Thousand Years as the music in Church as a non-traditional option but as much as I like the song it just reminds me of Twilight lol, I didn’t want to associate me walking down the aisle with that one lol!

  16. Such a lovely list of classics and fairly new songs that bring back so many good memories. We didn’t have a wedding song/list of songs, but we had a great time. There are several on this list that remind me of happy times with our little family. Thanks for sharing this!

  17. Ooooo so many great tunes!!!! Picking the right tunes for a wedding can be tough!

  18. These are some great options! I’ve heard of a few bride/groom couples that send out Song requests with their wedding invitations/RSVP cards and then they make their selection that way. That’s always fun cause when you hear the song you pick, it’s pretty much the most exciting feeling ever (especially after a few cocktails!)

    1. I think that’s a fabulous idea! We wanted to do that but ended up not having enough room on our RSVP cards. Plus it was like pulling teeth to get people to send those things back! But i really do think it’s a great idea. But i would definitely get a “buffer” list ready just in case someone doesn’t get very many responses or the same song over and over.

  19. Wow. What a great list! This would have come in so handy when I planned our wedding. Love it! I’m sure there will be many people that will find this to be an excellent resource for their special day.

  20. Wow! Quite the list. This will come in so handy while we prepare for our wedding. Thank you!!
