Coming right up is a very special moment in your ceremony, if you chose to have one! It’s the Sand Ceremony! Of course these songs can be used for a Unity Candle lighting as well. Our wedding was outside so we went with the sand.

I’m sure you know what’s coming but I’m going to highly recommend you practice this too! Depending on how big your alter is (if you have one), so how far you have to walk, how big your train is (you’re going to need time to maneuver around with that thing), how much sand you will have, or how long it takes you to light a candle, nervously. I would practice it from start to finish and then if you have a good chunk of song left, I would trim that out.

My wife and I got married on a really small alter and even though our song was only 3 minutes long, we were left standing there awkwardly for a good portion of it. Maybe we just poured the sand too fast in excitement lol Luckily, my baby sister was singing our song so that was our saving grace in the awkward department. More people were focused on her.

Hope you can find something you like in this list!

  1. I definitely see your point about having the song be a short one because it really doesn’t take long to pour sand.

    1. Maybe one day you could renew your vows you can do a sand ceremony and include any children you have! Each with a different color! I think that would be really neat!! Aw, well thank you!!

  4. oh these are great song ideas! I wasn’t sure how to make this section unawkward when I got married so we just skipped it haha. Sounds like your sister did it well!

  7. What a wonderful songs! BTW, what is about sand-ceremony? it sounds like a wedding in beach.

    1. Thanks! It’s like a ceremony inside a ceremony. A lot of the times a couple will do a unity candle, signifying the two lives coming together. Instead of doing a candle you use sand. So you have a jar of one colored sand, your partner has another. You each pour a little into a bigger jar and then start pouring together. It signifies that we each started as individuals but now that we are married we will be forever intertwined and connected, because no matter how hard you try to separate those 2 colors of sand, you never will.

  8. A lovely collection of songs, this, and congratulations on your wedding! I confess I have never heard of a Sand Ceremony before though – it sounds intriguing!
