So I have been slacking on my blog lately and for that, I apologize. Things are getting a little crazy around here and if you keep reading, you’ll find out why! But I’m back today and am sharing a little update on how all our goals for 2017 are going!

So let’s just jump right on in..

Personal Goals

Goal #1. Lose 200lbs Collectively

We are still going pretty steady on this one. And we have NOT given up!! I don’t remember the last time myself or my wife have been focused this long on losing weight. We’ll usually last, at most, like a month. But look at us go! We have made it double that and have done a whole 2 months! That may not seem like a lot to some, but it is for us. The weight isn’t falling off as fast as we would hope but it’s still going down, so that’s what’s most important. I have been really focused on staying within my Weight Watchers points the last couple months but have not been focusing on working out. Like at all. So last week I started going to the gym. I only made it twice, but I’m hoping this week I can make it 3 times. Making progress!

Here are our current weights:
Mine: 321.2 So a total loss of 19.0lbs!
Wife’s: 225.3 So a total loss of 4.3lbs!

We have lost a combined total of 23.3lbs in 2 months. Not too shabby. Though we are behind our  by about 11lbs, we are still focused. Like I said at the beginning of the year, as long as we are smaller at the end of it than the beginning, we will both be happy! Even though 200lbs would be a really awesome thing to hit!

Goal #2. Buy a House

This is the goal that has kept me so busy and preoccupied. GUYSSSSS! We are sooooooooo freaking close! When I updated last we had just gotten our pre-qualification letter. Well we finally received our pre-approval letter and immediately started looking for houses. We went out twice to search for houses and had looked at total of 8 homes. The last home we looked at, we really liked. Yes, it needed some TLC, but we loved the layout and had just about everything we had wanted.

For some reason, though, my gut said to sit on the decision for a little bit before we put in an offer. And I’m so thankful I listened to it because the next morning I realized that the city we found the house in has a pit bull ban punishable by jail time. And one of our dogs is a pit mix. I’m pretty positive that it would literally kill my wife if we ever had to give up that dog so we immediately said we were unable to put an offer on it at this time. We were totally bummed! I will one day rant about these bogus bans but that’s a topic for a different day.

We had to go back to the drawing board. Later that week, though, an even more perfect for us house came on the market. It’s in the area we wanted (we were having a really hard time finding houses in our price range where we actually wanted to live), it has a split level entry (which I love), a basement, a huge fenced in back yard, we can see the elementary school from our deck, it has a huge walk in closet. Granted there a few things that we aren’t the biggest fans of (small kitchen, some storage in basement but not a whole lot) but all the other good things make up for it.

It was priced really well, so we thought surely we would not get it.  Plus, when we went to go look at it just 1 day after it was put on the market, there were literally 3 other families there looking at it at the same time we were (on a Friday night!). But we decided to put in an offer because we had nothing to lose. The worst they could say was “no”, right?

Well, they accepted our offer!!! We are so excited! So at this point, we have gone through the inspection process and have renegotiated and have come to a new agreement on terms. I have submitted all our paperwork and needed documents to our lender. Now, we are just waiting on the appraisal and final mortgage approval. Right now, we are set to close on the 30th. We cannot wait! And fun fact, the day my wife and I moved in together was 4 years ago on March 30th. I think it’s fate!

Can’t wait to show you all pictures once this is all said and one and we are moved in!

Goal #3. Become more Organized.

I am absolutely loving my Bullet Journal. I’m just mad I had never heard of it before. I fell like my life is at least somewhat put together now. It’s great! I’m still using my happy planner and really like using it as like an overview of my week/month. My sister has a Erin Condren planner and I have been drooling over them. She’s not using it and said I can use it. I’m stoked! I just don’t want to drop $50+ on a planner that I may not like. It’s very similar to my HP but it’s spiral bound, i love that feature.

Goal #4. Get Finances in Check.

We have really been on spending spree the past week or 2. We need to get it in check. But for the most of February, we were pretty good. Hoping once we get moved into our new house and settled we can get back to not needing to spend as much.

I feel like we have made a slight dent in our debt (even though we are about to add A LOT).

*Loans: $12,076 (down $288)
Credit Cards: $4858 (down $258)
Cars: $31,163 (down $1,049)

*Total: $48,097 (down $1,595)

Most of these were must minimum payments but I was able to make a few extra payments towards our credit cards, so I do feel good about that! We have decreased our debt by 3.2%. Not a whole lot but it is something!

*These numbers are increased from last month because I forgot to include my student loans. How in the world could I forget those?!

Blog Goals

Goal #5. Post at least once a week.

Ha. Totally failed at this. Will work on it.

Goal #6. Social Media Subscribers.

This is not going to be pretty. I honestly lost focus on all my social media accounts but I plan to do better this month!

Here are the numbers:
Pinterest: 622 Followers (Increase of 3) = needs work
Google+: 172 Followers (Increase of 26)= needs work
Instagram: 1342 Followers (Increase of 83)=still on track
Twitter: 2626 Followers (Increase of 452)=still on track
Facebook Page: 769 Likes (Increase of 116)=needs work
Blog: 57 Subscribers (Increase of 20)=needs work

My plan of action for this is to actually get refocused and start posting again to all my social media accounts.

Goal #7. Monetize.

Still working on this. Like my other blog goals I have really lost sight of this. Time to do it!

So that’s the update for this month! Some of it looks fantastic, some not so great. But I’m so glad I’m doing these kind of updates/posts but it really

  1. You have some big goals for this year. Good luck on all of them and just keep working them them one day at a time.

  2. Try not to beat yourself up about your goals because I think you have done well, especially with Twitter! Do you have any tips for increasing your following on Twitter?

  3. I would love to know how you do so well increasing your social media followers. I have been able to average about 150 week on Twitter. I admit I am still figuring out Pinterest, but Instagram has been crazy. Its like two steps forward and one and a half steps back. That’s great how well you have been doing with all your goals though. Congrats!

    1. Thank you! I think what helps increase the most is just posting on a regular basis. When I don’t post, I lose followers but when I do, I gain them! But I agree that instagram can be so frustrating because you’ll see that you gained followers and then the next day you’ll look and you lost them all and then some!

  4. Congrats on losing weight and buying a home. So exciting. Homes are literally about a million dollars where I live, so we’re still renting. But I really hope to be a home owner someday!

    1. Oh wow! Oddly enough we will be saving money each month by buying a house. Here rent rates are through the roof but you can cut your rent in half by purchasing a small home. It’s crazy!

  5. You have some great goals set for 2017! And don’t give up because they are all achievable with hard work and a little time commitment, good luck!

  6. Wow! Congrats on the house! I’m glad that you guys are closing on the one that you want, in an area that you want to live in. You’ve had so much going on, no wonder you haven’t posted once a week, so that’s completely okay! Good luck on your goals!

  7. Am excited for you to get these goals this year! Eye for the gold 🙂

  8. I would say you are doing a great job, all your number are going in the right direction. Congrats on that and all your other goals too.

  9. Hi Amanda, wishing you all the very best of success in achieving all your goals for 2017!
One thing that jumped out at me is how transparent you are in sharing your debts, down to the exact dollars. Wow. You’re really humble to be able to do that. For that I applaud you!

  10. I love reading blog posts on goal setting! it is such a worthwhile thing to do and i am definitely going to join in at some point soon. You have some great goals to work toward here!

  11. Those are great goals! Buying a house is so stressful but so amazing. We bought ours a few years ago and it was the best decision we ever made!

  14. Buy a house and getting my finances in check are a few of my main goals for 2017 as well. I’m so happy for you that you are off to a great start. Keep going and don’t stop 🙂

  15. These are great goals. You have inspired me to make some goals for this year. I didn’t want to before because I don’t like letting myself down. But I may make a few.

    1. That’s awesome to hear! I think the fear of letting myself down makes me that much more able to actually complete them! I think the key is setting realistic goals so that way you can accomplish something without being dissappointed.

  16. This is amazing. I guess even i should make such list of goals. Thanx for inspiring

  17. Happy for you that you are reaching the goals. I was planning to start goal#1 this week unfortunately having temperature will need to wait one more week to get it started.

  18. Great goals and love the updates! I hope you find your perfect house soon – how exciting! I’m also working on getting my finances and some blog stuff settled for this month, so fingers crossed for the both of us!
